The war tightens its grip on Britain as the years progress, and the women of the Great Western Railway works must fight their own battles on the factory floor, in their homes and in their hearts. As Christmas 1942 approaches, American GIs arrive in Swindon and the women throw themselves into preparing the GWR festive pantomime, finding a new determination to seek joy wherever they can.
